Rep. Long slams GOP Rep. Olson’s suggestion that lawmakers shouldn’t ‘do anything’

Wednesday, April 22, 2026

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – An April 9 Mankato Free Press story (“Greater Mankato Growth spends day at the Capitol”) quoted Republican state Rep. Bjorn Olson (R – Fairmont) saying the following: “A lot of people in my district, they look at me and they say, ‘Bjorn, you guys didn’t do anything last year.’ I said, ‘that’s exactly what we want.’”

House DFL Floor Leader Jamie Long (DFL – Minneapolis) issued the following statement:

“Rep. Olson said the quiet part out loud: the GOP isn’t interested in governing. With Minnesotans struggling to afford their daily lives, urging action to address gun violence, and wanting lawmakers to fight fraud, an outcome of doing nothing is completely unacceptable.

Doing nothing might be what Rep. Olson wants so he and other Republicans can go home, but that’s not what Minnesotans want.
