St. Paul, MN — Last night, the House passed the Public Safety and Security funding bill, SF 3432. The legislation focuses on funding for victim support, security improvements for the Capitol and courthouses statewide, and detection of threats that put the public at risk.
“This legislation reflects our commitment to maintaining the safety and security of our collective public spaces,” said Rep. Moller (DFL - Shoreview,) Co-Chair of the House Public Safety Committee. “Every Minnesotan uses these spaces that form the heart of our democracy. Without them, we cannot have a thriving democracy. I’m grateful for my legislative partners who came together in recognition of the importance of maintaining the safety of these public spaces.”
In addition to Capitol security and courthouse security grants, the legislation contains funding for BCA threat assessment and investigation. This is a critical aspect of identifying and stopping potential threats before they arrive at schools, places of worship, or public events.
