House Passes Rep. Norris Bill Boosting Medicaid Fraud Control Unit

Monday, May 18, 2026

St. Paul, Minn. – Tonight, the Minnesota House passed funding to hire more investigators and prosecutors for the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit and stiffen penalties for those who commit Medicaid fraud. This unit housed in the Attorney General’s office is pivotal in the state's efforts to prevent and shut down fraud. Rep. Matt Norris (DFL - Blaine,) author of the legislation who shepherded the bill through the entire process, released the following statement.

“This is the House coming together to do what every Minnesotan wants us to do: take strong action to combat fraud. While there were a couple of unnecessary bumps along the way, in the end, this legislation was simply too cost effective and too important to fail to pass this year. Now Minnesota will be better protected against Medicaid fraud than ever before. This means more tax dollars going where they are desperately needed. This is a major win for our entire state.”
