Rep. Spencer Igo Responds to Announced Layoffs at Hibbing Taconite 

St. Paul, MN — Hibbing Taconite announced that 45 positions will be eliminated on February 1st as part of a restructuring based on operational needs. Representative Spencer Igo (R – Wabana Township) issued the following statement in response: 

“This is difficult and troubling news for the workers and families affected. My support is with the union members who are now facing layoffs and uncertainty. Mining is the backbone of the Iron Range, and while this announcement is devastating, it does not change the strength or importance of our mining communities.” 

“Losing a job is something no individual or family should have to face alone. I am confident our communities will step up just like they always have to support one another during this time, and I encourage anyone impacted to reach out if there is any way I can help.”
