MINUTES


Representative Tim Wilkin, Chair of the Commerce & Financial Institutions Committee, called the fifth meeting to order at 12:35 p.m. on Tuesday, February 1, 2005, in Room 200 of the State Office Building.

The Clerk noted the roll.

A quorum was present.

Rep. Moe moved that the minutes from the meeting of January 19, 2005 be approved.
The motion prevailed.

Rep. Gunther assumed the gavel at 12:45p.m.

Legislative Auditor Jim Nobles and Jody Hauer presented a report on Workplace Development Services and answered questions from members.

Commissioner Matt Kramer of the Department of Employment & Economic Development, Jerry Vitzthum, Chair of Legislative Committee for the Minnesota Workforce Council Association, and Anne Olson, Executive Director of Minnesota Workforce Council Association, responded to the presentation and answered questions from members.

Rep. Howes assumed the gavel at 1:50 p.m.

Mayor Herb Bergson of the city of Duluth, Bob Bruce, Planning Director for the city of Duluth, and Julie Johnson, Convention Sales Manager of the Visit Duluth Bureau, gave a presentation on the impact of tourism on the city of Duluth, and answered questions from members.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:15 p.m.
