MINUTES


Representative Sondra Erickson, Vice Chair of the Education Policy and Reform Committee, called the thirteenth meeting to order at 8:17AM on Tuesday, March 8, 2005, in Room 200 of the State Office Building. A quorum was present.

The Clerk noted the roll.

HF1587 (Buesgens): Assessment of student growth in academic achievement over time provided.

Rep. Buesgens moved that HF1587 be recommended to pas and be re-referred to the Committee on Education Finance.

Rep. Buesgens presented HF 1587.

Testifying on HF 1587 were:

Rep. Latz offered the following oral amendment to HF 1587:
Page 1, line 3, before "student", insert "individual".
Page 1, line 10, after "reporting", insert "individual".
Page 1, line 12, after "of", insert "individual".
And revision of punctuation and grammar as necessary.

Rep. Buesgens considered the amendment friendly, and incorporated it into his bill.

Rep. Latz offered the following oral amendment to HF 1587:
Page 1, line 20, delete "a proposal" and insert "proposals".

Rep. Buesgens considered the amendment friendly, and incorporated it into his bill.

Rep. Buesgens renewed his motion that HF1587 be recommended to pass and be re-referred to the Committee on Education Finance. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

HF1176 (Brod): Special education teacher license variance modified.

Rep. Erickson moved that HF 1176 be recommended to pass.

Rep. Brod presented HF1176.

Testifying on HF 1176 was:
Gary Nytes, North Central Service Cooperative, Executive Director

Rep. Erickson renewed her motion that HF 1176 be recommended to pass. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Rep. Cybart moved the minutes of March 3, 2005. THE MINUTES WERE APPROVED.

Rep. Erickson recessed the meeting at 9:07 AM.

Rep. Buesgens reconvened the meeting at 7:19 PM in the Deerwood Auditorium in Deerwood, Minnesota.

Rep. Buesgens spoke to the informational hearing on how the Crosby-Ironton school shutdown is affecting the community.
