BIOSCIENCES AND EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES COMMITTEE

MINUTES


Representative Tim Mahoney, Chair of the Committee, called the meeting to order at 10:09AM on February 6, 2007 in Room 200 of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

A quorum was present.

Representative Norton moved that the minutes from January 31, 2007 be approved. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Chair Mahoney moved to reconsider HF 194 from the Committee on Higher Education and Workforce Development. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Chair Mahoney moved that HF 194 be recommended to pass and be referred to the Committee on Finance. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Allen S. Levine, Dean of the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences at the University of Minnesota introduced his colleagues for testimony.

Dr. Mindy Kurzer, Professor, Dept of Food Science and Nutrition at the University of Minnesota provided an overview of agriculture and human health research.

Dr. Ted P. Labuza, Professor, Dept of Food Science and Nutrition, at the University of Minnesota provided an overview of food quality and food safety initiatives.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:23AM.
