BIOSCIENCES AND EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES COMMITTEE

MINUTES


Representative Tim Mahoney, Chair of the Committee, called the meeting to order at 10:04AM on March 6, 2007 in Room 200 of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

A quorum was present.

Representative Norton moved that the minutes from February 28, 2007 be adopted. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Vice Chair Norton assumed the gavel at 10:10AM.

HF 1631 (Haws), a bill for an act relating to bioscience and technology; establishing a bioscience business promotion and marketing program in the Department of Employment and Economic Development; appropriating money.

Representative Haws moved that HF 1631 be recommended to pass and be re-referred to the Committee on Finance.

Representative Haws offered an oral amendment as follows:

Page 1, line 1.17, after "institution" strike "and", insert "or"

The amendment was incorporated into HF 1631.

Testifying in support of the bill:

Tom Moore, President, St. Cloud Area Economic Development Partnership

Representative Haws moved that HF 1631 be recommended to pass, as amended, and be re-referred to the Committee on Finance. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

HF 1637 (Beard), a bill for an act relating to economic development; establishing nanotechnology development fund program; requiring and report; appropriating money.

Representative Beard moved that HF 1637 be recommended to pass and be re-referred to the Committee on Finance.

Representative Beard moved amendment H1637A2 (attached).

THE MOTION PREVAILED. THE AMENDMENT WAS ADOPTED.

Representative Beard offered an oral amendment as follows:

Page 1, delete line 1.24
Page 2, line 2.1, delete everything before "or"
Page 2, line 2.3, delete ";" and insert "and"
Page 2, line 2.6, after "offerings" delete ";" and insert a period
Page 2, delete line 2.7
Page 2, delete line 2.8

The amendment was incorporated into HF 1637.

Representative Beard renewed the motion that HF 1637 be recommended to pass, as amended, and be re-referred to the Committee on Finance. THE MOTION PREVAILED.
