MINUTES


Representative Carlos Mariani, Chair of the E-12 Education Committee, called the third meeting to order at 8:05 AM on Thursday, January 18, 2007, in the basement hearing room of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll:

A quorum was present.

Rep. Dittrich moved that the minutes of January 16, 2007 be adopted. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Continued introductions of Members, their districts, their experience with E-12 Education in Minnesota, and their goals for the committee.

Overview of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math education issues by:

Mr. Bill Linder-Scholer, Executive Director of the ADC Foundation, "Why, from a Minnesota employer's perspective, is STEM education important to preparing our state’s future workforce for global competition?"

Ms. Lisa Larson, House Research, "Minnesota’s K-12 Academic Standards and Assessments" and "Comparing High School Graduation and College Admission Requirements."

Ms. Nancy Nutting, Executive Director, SciMathMn, “Developing World Class Students through World Class Mathematics Standards."

The meeting was adjourned at 9:40 AM.
