MINUTES
Representative Carlos Mariani, Chair of the E-12 Education Committee, called the sixth meeting to order at 8:05 AM on Thursday, February 1, 2007, in the basement hearing room of the State Office Building.

Rep. Mariani gave an overview of the day's agenda
Rep. Dittrich assumed the gavel at 8:07 AM.
Rep. Dittrich announced that there are additional handouts from Tuesday’s hearing in North Minneapolis in Member's folders.
Rep. Gottwalt moved that the minutes of January 25, 2007 and January 30, 2007 be adopted. THE MOTION PREVAILED.
Continued introductions of Members, their districts, their experience with E-12 Education in Minnesota, and their goals for the committee.
Overview of the Governor’s early childhood program proposals and question and answer presented by:
Commissioner Alice Seagren, Minnesota Department of Education,
Ms. Karen Carlson, Director, Early Learning Services, Department of Education.
Presentation of early childhood programs and issues related to kindergarten readiness and question and answer presented by:
Mr. Todd Otis, President, Ready 4 K,
Ms. Zoe Nicholie, Public Policy Director, Ready for K.
Presentation on potential pitfalls of early education by:
Dr. Karen Effram, Policy Analyst and Board Member, EdWatch.
Rep. Mariani assumed the gavel at 9:30 AM.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:32 AM.
