MINUTES


Representative Carlos Mariani, Chair of the E-12 Education Committee, called the fourteenth meeting to order at 8:03 AM on Thursday, March 1, 2007, in the basement hearing room of the State Office Building.

HF 1057 (Urdahl)—A bill for an act relating to education; providing support to newly licensed teachers teaching in high-need subject areas and schools; appropriating money; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 122A.

Rep. Urdahl moved that HF 1057 be recommended to pass and re-referred the Committee on Finance, with a recommended re-referral to the K-12 Finance Division.

Rep. Urdahl and Rep. S. Peterson presented HF 1057.

Rep. Urdahl renewed his motion that HF 1057 be recommended to pass and re-referred to the Committee on Finance, with a recommended re-referral to the Early Childhood Learning Finance Division. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

HF 810 (Swails) - A bill for an act relating to relating to education; establishing licensure and continuing education requirements for teachers, program coordinators, specialists of gifted and talented programs; amending Minnesota Statutes 2006, sections 122A.14, by adding a subdivision, 122A.18, by adding a subdivision.

Rep. Swails moved that HF 810 be recommended to pass and re-referred to the Committee on Finance, with a recommended re-referral to the K-12 Finance Division.

Rep. Swails moved the H0810A2 amendment. THE MOTION PREVAILED. THE AMENDMENT WAS ADOPTED.

HF 489 (Hilstrom)—A bill for an act relating to education; establishing an induction program for new teachers; appropriating money; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes; chapter 122A.

Chair Mariani moved that HF 489 be recommended to pass and re-referred to the Committee on Finance, with a recommended re-referral to the K-12 Finance Division.

HF 412 (Peterson, S.) - A bill for an act relating to education; establishing a grant program to promote professional teaching standards; appropriating money; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes; chapter 122A.

Rep. S. Peterson moved that HF 412 be recommended to pass and re-referred to the Committee on Finance with a recommended re-referral to the K-12 Finance Division.

HF 811 (Wardlow) - A bill for an act relating to education; providing professional development programs in mathematics and science; appropriating money; amending Minnesota Statutes 2006, section 122A..72, subdivision 5.

Rep. Urdahl moved that HF 811 be recommended to pass and re-referred to the Committee on Finance, with a recommended re-referral to the K-12 Education Committee.
