MINUTES


Representative Carlos Mariani, Chair of the E-12 Education Committee, called the twenty-seventh meeting to order at 8:05AM on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, in the Basement hearing room of the State Office Building.


The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll:

Rep. Hornstein moved the minutes for February 21, 2008. THE MOTION PREVAILED. THE MINUTES WERE APPROVED.

Chair Mariani introduced this year's E-12 Education pages:

HF 3329 (Brynaert) - A bill for an act relating to education; establishing state measures of academic success; amending Minnesota Statutes 2006, sections 120B.31, as amended; 120.35B, as amended; 120B.36, as amended; 120B.362; Minnesota Statutes 2007 Supplement, section 120B.30; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 120B..

Chair Mariani moved HF 3329 be recommended to pass, and re-referred to the Committee on Finance, with a recommended re-referral to the K-12 Finance Division.

Chair Mariani moved the 3329A1 amendment.

Chair Mariani incorporated the following oral to the 3329A1 amendment:

Page 1, after line 9, insert:

"Page 13, Line 7, delete "Minnesota Assessment Group and the"
Page 13, Line 8, delete "Local Assessment and Advisory Committee" and insert “a recognized Minnesota assessment group composed of assessment and evaluation directions and staff and researchers""

Chair Mariani renewed his motion to adopt the 3329A1 amendment. THE MOTION PREVAILED. THE AMENDMENT WAS ADOPTED.

Rep. Brynaert gave an overview of HF 3329.

Rep. Gottwalt moved the following oral amendment:
