MINUTES


Representative Tom Rukavina, Chair of the Higher Education and Work Force Development Policy and Finance Division, called the meeting to order at 12:37 P.M. on Tuesday, January 23, 2007, in Room 5 of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

A quorum was present.

Chair Rukavina invited the students present to begin their testimony, and stated that Peter Hutchinson would be first on the agenda tomorrow to discuss his views on Minnesota's higher education and work force development programs. The student testimony began, as follows:

Katie Stenseth and Demaya Riddley, students at St. Olaf College, provided testimony regarding their personal experiences with Minnesota's higher education and financial aid systems. Ms. Stenseth and Ms. Riddley responded to questions from members.

Elizabeth Henry, a student at the Duluth Business University, provided testimony regarding her personal experience with Minnesota's higher education and financial aid systems. Ms. Henry responded to questions from members.

Adam Hofschulte, a student at the Minnesota School of Business in Rochester, provided testimony regarding his personal experiences with Minnesota's higher education and financial aid systems. Mr. Hofschulte responded to questions from members.

Karly Kauf, a student at the College of St. Catherine, provided testimony regarding her personal experiences with Minnesota's higher education and financial aid systems. Ms. Kauf responded to questions from members.

Lori Eskierka, a student at the Art Institute International Minnesota, provided testimony regarding her personal experiences with Minnesota's higher education and financial aid systems. Ms. Eskierka responded to questions from members.

Scott Wendt, a student at Dunwoody College of Technology, provided testimony regarding his personal experiences with Minnesota's higher education and financial aid systems. Mr. Wendt responded to questions from members.

Further questions and discussion followed.

Representative Mahoney moved that the minutes of January 18, 2007 be adopted. THE MOTION PREVAILED.


The meeting was adjourned at 1:40 P.M.
