LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND METRO AFFAIRS COMMITTEE

MINUTES


Representative Debra Hilstrom, Chair of the Local Government and Metro Affairs Committee, started the eighth meeting at 12:30pm on Wednesday, February 7, 2007 in the Basement Hearing Room of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

Members excused:

Keith Carlson, Executive Director of the Minnesota Inter-County Association provided a presentation on the Credit Card Task Force Report and took questions from the committee.

A quorum was present at 12:34pm, and the meeting was called to order.

Lori Economy-Scholler, member of the Credit Card Task Force provided supplementary information on the report and took questions from the committee.

Jerry Engebretson, of the Department of Finance provided supplementary information on the report and took questions from the committee.

Mary Ellison of the Department of Public Safety also provided supplementary information on the report and took questions from the committee.

H.F. 281 (Moe): Local government planning assistance provided, regional development commissions required to submit annual work programs, and money appropriated.

Chair Hilstrom moved that H.F. 281 be recommended to pass and be re-referred to the Committee on Finance.

The following individuals testified on behalf of the bill and took questions from the committee:
Barb Hoyhtya, City Administrator for the city of Canby.
Gene Short, Chairman of the Southwest Regional Development Commission.
Bob Voss, Executive Director of the East Central Regional Development Commission.
Kevin Walli, counsel for the Minnesota Regional Development Organizations.

Chair Hilstrom renewed her motion that H.F.281be recommended to pass and be re-referred to the Committee on Finance.

THE MOTION PREVAILED AND THE BILL WAS PASSED.

Chair Hilstrom adjourned the meeting at 5:22pm
