Representative Mindy Greiling, Chair of the Committee, called the meeting to order at 2:45PM on April 1, 2009, in Room 10 of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

A quorum was not present.

HF1179 (Mariani) A bill for an act relating to education; providing for prekindergarten through grade 12 education, including general education, education excellence, special programs, libraries, and self-sufficiency and lifelong learning.

Lisa Larson, House Research, provided an overview of HF1179.

A quorum was present at 2:53pm.

Representative Newton moved the minutes of March 31, 2009 be adopted.

HF1127 (Eastlund) A bill for an act relating to veterans; clarifying the circumstances under which pay differential applies to deployed National Guard and reserve members who are teachers.

Representative Dettmer moved that HF1127 be recommended to pass and be returned to the Finance Committee.


Representative Dettmer and Colonel Aulness, Government Relations, Department of Military Affairs, testified.

Representative Dettmer offered the followed oral amendment to HF1127:
Page 2, line 6, after "cocurricular" insert "and extracurricular"

Representative Mariani moved that HF1179 be laid over for possible inclusion in the Omnibus K-12 Education Finance Bill.
