AGRICULTURE, RURAL ECONOMIES AND VETERANS AFFAIRS COMMITTEE
MINUTES
Representative Otremba, Chair of the Committee, called the meeting to order at
2:47 P.M. on February 2, 2009, in Room 5 of the State Office Building.
The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

Rep. Eken moved approval of the minutes from January 28, 2009.
THE MOTION PREVAILED. THE MINUTES WERE ADOPTED.
Department of Agriculture and Department of Health gave a joint presentation on food safety and food born outbreaks.
Testifying was:
Ms. Jeanne Danaher, Deputy Commissioner, Minnesota Department of Health
Mr. Jim Boerboom, Deputy Commissioner, Minnesota Department of Agriculture
Mr. Ben Miller, Supervisor of Response Section of Dairy and Food Inspections, Department of Agriculture, showed the committee a video over viewing food inspection process.
Ms. Quinn Cheney, Policy Director, Minnesota Department of Agriculture
Ms. LeeAnn Johnson, Manager, Biological Analysis Section, Department of Agriculture
Mr. Kirk Smith, Department of Health, Supervisor, Foodborne/ Vectorborne Forensic Diseases Unit, told the committee that Minnesota has the model program for the country
John Besser, Manager of Clinical Laboratory/Program -Preventing Foodborne Disease, Minnesota Department of Health
The meeting was adjourned at 4:20 P.M.
