MINUTES

Representative Marquart, Chair of the Committee on Education Finance, called the meeting to order at 8:15AM, March 11, 2014 in Room 10 of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

Representative Myhra moved the minutes of March 6th, 2014 be approved.
THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Representative Newton moved HF1917 (Newton) Safe schools levy authority increased.

Public testimony on HF1917 was provided by the following individuals: Chuck Holden, Chief Information Officer of Anoka-Hennepen Schools; Sandra Lewandowski, Superintendent of Intermediate School District 287; Brad Lundell, Schools for Equity in Education.

Members’ comments and questions were addressed throughout the presentation of the bill.

CHAIR MARQUART LAID OVER HF1917 FOR POSSIBLE INCLUSION IN AN OMNIBUS EDUCATION FINANCE BILL.

Representative Morgan and Chair Marquart recognized students in the audience from the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District and thanked them for coming to today’s hearing.

Representative Bernardy moved HF2299 (Ward) Independent school districts and intermediate school districts building lease levy increased.

Public testimony on HF2299 was provided by the following individuals: Peggy Flathman, Superintendent of Fridley Public Schools; Matt Hammer, Finance Director of Fridley Public Schools; John Christenson, Superintendent of Intermediate School District 917; Connie Hayes, Superintendent of Intermediate School District 916.

Members’ comments and questions were addressed throughout the presentation of the bill.

CHAIR MARQUART LAID OVER HF2299 FOR POSSIBLE INCLUSION IN AN OMNIBUS EDUCATION FINANCE BILL.

Representative Woodard moved HF2648 (Kiel) Environmental Protection Agency rule compliance included for school generators as en eligible use of health and safety revenue.

Public testimony on HF2648 was provided by the following individuals: Phil Jenson, Superintendent of Hawley Public Schools; Randy Bruer, Superintendent of Win-E-Mac Public Schools.

Members’ comments and questions were addressed throughout the presentation of the bill.

CHAIR MARQUART LAID OVER HF2648 FOR POSSIBLE INCLUSION IN AN OMNIBUS EDUCATION FINANCE BILL.

Vice Chair Slocum assumed chair of the committee.

Representative Brynaert moved HF2696 (Brynaert) Telecommunication access equity funding provided, and money appropriated.

Public testimony on HF2696 was provided by the following individuals: Mary Mehsikomer, Technology Integration Development and Outreach Facilitator, TIES; Marc Johnson, Director of East Central Minnesota Education Cable Cooperative; Rick Heller, unofficial representative of the twice exceptional print-disabled.

Members’ comments and questions were addressed throughout the presentation of the bill.

VICE CHAIR SLOCUM LAID OVER HF2696 FOR POSSIBLE INCLUSION IN AN OMNIBUS EDUCATION FINANCE BILL.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:40AM.
