MINUTES

Representative Sondra Erickson, Chair of the Education Innovation Policy Committee, called the meeting to order at 8:15 AM on March 10, 2016, in the Basement Hearing Room of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

Representative Erickson called the meeting to order at 8:18 A.M. A quorum was present.

Representative Lucero moved that the minutes of December 1, 2015 be approved. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Representative Christensen moved that the minutes of February 25, 2016 be approved. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Informational only hearing on Minnesota Department of Education initiatives Every Student Succeeds Act, World’s Best Workforce, and Innovation Pilot Project.

Presentations:

Brenda Cassellius, Commissioner Minnesota Department of Education, and Stephanie Graff, Chief Accountability Officer Minnesota Department of Education, gave a presentation on ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) and the World’s Best Workforce (WBWF) program.

Daron Korte, Assistant Commissioner Minnesota Department of Education, gave a presentation on the Innovation Pilot Project.

Testifiers:

Barb Duffrin, Executive Director of Educational Services, and Jason Berg, Principal Farmington High School, testified to The Innovation Pilot Project.

Jillian Mcgee, School Counselor Moose Lake School District, testified to student counselor importance in academic and behavioral performance for students, and how it pertains to the World’s Best Workforce.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:46 A.M.
