MINUTES

Representative Cheryl Youakim, Chair of the Committee, called the meeting to order at 2:32 PM on January 23, 2019 in Room 5 of the State Office Building. A quorum was present.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

Representative Baker moved that the minutes of January 16, 2019 be approved. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Presentations:

Roger Aronson, Minnesota Association of Secondary School Principals; Minnesota Elementary Principals Association; Minnesota State High School League, gave an overview of the organizations.

Bryan Donaldson, Minnesota Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs, gave an overview of the organization.

Cyndy Crist, Minnesota Association of Colleges of Teacher Education, presented on legislative priorities.

Sarah Clarke, Children with Disabilities Coalition and PACER Center, gave an overview of the organizations.

Alberto Monserrate, MinneMinds Coalition, gave an overview the organization and its priorities.

Erica Valliant, Education Partnerships Coalition, gave an overview of the organization.

Heather Starks, Minnesota Parent Teacher Association, provided background on the organization.

Chris Stinson, SEIU Local 284, gave an overview of the organization and its legislative priorities.

Eric Nesheim, Minnesota Literacy Council, gave an overview of the organization.

Brad Lundell, Schools for Equity in Education; Minnesota Schools Social Workers Association; The Minnesota Schools Psychologists Association; The Minnesota Administrators for Special Education; The Minnesota Association for Pupil Transportation, gave an overview of the organizations and their legislative priorities.

Eugene Piccolo, Minnesota Association of Charter Schools, gave an overview of the organization.

Kent Pekel, President and Chief Executive Officer at the SEARCH Institute gave a presentation on SEARCH and what students bring to the classroom.

Angela Jerabek, Executive Director, and Rob Metz, Deputy Director, of the BARR Center gave a presentation on their organization and how they work to build student success.

The meeting adjourned at 4:02 PM.
