EDUCATION FINANCE COMMITTEE MINUTES

Representative Cheryl Youakim, Chair of the Education Finance Committee, called the meeting to order at 11:06 AM on March 8, 2023, in Room 120 of the Capitol Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistance noted the roll.

Representative Pursell moved that the minutes from March 7th, 2023, be adopted. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

Chair Youakim requested that public testimony for each bill be presented first to ensure enough time was allotted for the committee to hear all the bills on the agenda. Testifiers for each bill are noted below.

HF 1137 (Sencer-Mura) Number of heritage language and culture teachers increased, and money appropriated.

Representative Sencer-Mura moved HF 1137 before the committee.

Representative Sencer-Mura moved HF 1138 before the committee.
Representative Sencer- Mura moved the A3 amendment. THE MOTION PREVAILED. THE AMENDMENT WAS ADOPTED.
Representative Sencer-Mura presented HF 1138 as amended.

HF 1257 (Hill) Barriers to teacher licensures removed, licensure requirements modified, and short-call substitute teacher pilot program established.
Representative Hill moved HF 1257 before the committee.
Representative Hill moved the A8 amendment before the committee. THE MOTION PREVAILED. THE AMENDMENT WAS ADOPTED.
Representative Hill presented HF 1257 as amended.

HF 1268 (Hill) Teacher licensure and teacher preparation program changes made professional Educator Licensing Standards Board membership changes made, and money appropriated.
Representative Hill moved HF 1268 before the committee.
