House DFL Caucus Leader Zack Stephenson (DFL-Coon Rapids) announced Tuesday that Rep. Cedrick Frazier (DFL-New Hope) will serve as the new DFL co-chair of the Ways and Means Committee.

Frazier is the first Black man to chair the Ways and Means Committee, which oversees the state budget. Rep. Esther Agbaje (DFL-Mpls) will serve as the DFL vice chair of the committee.

“Our shared experience leading the House POCI Caucus proved we can deliver transformative legislation for historically marginalized communities whose voices have too often been excluded from the decision-making process,” Frazier said in a statement. “Now, we bring that same dedication to the Ways and Means Committee.”

The DFL co-chair position on the Ways and Means Committee opened in September after House DFLers elected Stephenson, who was the co-chair, as their new caucus leader.

Frazier "is an outstanding leader who is well respected throughout the Legislature. I am honored to appoint him as co-chair of the Ways and Means Committee,” Stephenson said in a statement.
