Legislative Update – April 9, 2026

Dear neighbors,

As we move closer to putting together our major policy bills for this session, it’s a good time to check in on what’s been happening at the legislature. I was glad to catch up with Town Square Television for a mid-session update, which you can watch here

In our current tied House, we have to find places to work together, even when we disagree on the big issues. One example is my bill supporting MAELC, an organization that promotes agriculture education and job training. The bill passed the House Ways and Means Committee with bipartisan support and awaits action on the floor.

I also wanted to highlight this article on legislation I've authored to raise awareness of suicide prevention resources. You can read more here.

Taking on Corporate Power

A big theme this year has been the power of money in our agricultural system. We’ve heard about the proposed expansion of a dairy operation that would be 60 times larger than the average farm, chemical companies are opposing bans on herbicides linked to Parkinson’s, and now we’re hearing reports of huge churches using non-profit exemptions to buy up farmland.

These deals are good for those in power, but they’re bad for everyday people. Yesterday in the Agriculture Committee, I asked department staff about their plans to address money and consolidation in our agricultural system. You can watch the exchange here.

I’ll continue fighting this session and into the future for an economy that works better for everyone, not just the big and powerful.

Promoting Sustainability

1

Celebrate sustainability at the 5th Annual South St. Paul Environmental Expo on Saturday, April 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Central Square and the Kaposia Library!

Stop by to see electric vehicles and e-bikes, visit with local exhibitors, and create your own potted plant to take home. New this year, participate in the SSP Toy Swap—bring in gently used toys beginning April 13 and find something new at the Expo.

Inver Grove Heights recognizes both individuals and businesses that participate in sustainable efforts. There are multiple recognition levels for various sustainable efforts that are completed. If this sounds like you, apply by May 8! For more information and how to apply, click here.
