Swedzinski: Lyon County receiving state flood assistance

Wednesday, November 1, 2023

ST. PAUL – State Rep. Chris Swedzinski, R-Ghent, announces Lyon is among seven Minnesota counties where state emergency assistance will be provided in response to damage caused by flooding last April.

The funds will be distributed from the state’s Disaster Assistance Contingency Fund, which the Legislature established in 2014 to streamline the delivery of local assistance when disasters strike. In this case, Minnesota’s Division of Homeland Security & Emergency Management will allocate funds to Lyon as necessary to provide public assistance and deliver additional assistance if requested by a local government as warranted.

“Minnesota has a history of stepping up to deliver relief when natural disasters occur and it is good to see this response to help Lyon recover from damages suffered last spring,” Swedzinski said. “It’s nice the contingency fund was established to help relief get where it’s needed.”

Cass, Itasca, Polk, Redwood, Ramsey, and Washington counties also experienced significant damage caused by spring flooding and are eligible for assistance.
