Legislative Update from Rep. Mike FreibergNeighbors, I’m so glad to be writing to you with a small morsel of good news. Yesterday’s announcement from DHS about the end of Operation Metro Surge has me breathing a sigh of relief for the first time in weeks. I remain cautious in my optimism – we cannot let our guard down as long as ICE remains on our streets. But I hope that this potential light at the end of the tunnel has allowed you to breathe a bit easier, too. We’ve been through a lot this year for it only being February. I’m incredibly proud of the way our community and our state have responded to the federal invasion of Minnesota. Minnesotans came together and put our collective foot down, and we won the battle because of it. That being said, it’s not lost on me that hundreds of families were forever changed by ICE and CBP over the past few months. Though we expect the presence of ICE to decrease in the coming days, many people in our community still need help as they grapple with the aftermath of the destruction this “operation” caused. Many families have been without income for weeks and need our help as they attempt to transition to a new normal. I will be continuing to support mutual aid efforts, and I hope you will, too. To those who have been affected by ICE, please do not hesitate to reach out to my office if there is anything I can do to help. I represent everyone in our district, no matter your background, circumstance, or politics. Join me for a Town HallTo say we have a lot to talk about is an understatement. I hope you can join me and Rep. Cedrick Frazier for a town hall meeting on Saturday, February 21st at 10am. We'll discuss a wide range of topics, from the upcoming legislative session to the Federal impacts on our community. Please RSVP here by Friday, February 20th to receive the address of the event. I hope you can join. Adopt Me! ICE’s brutal assault on our state has ripped apart too many families. As a result, local animal shelters have seen an uptick in surrenders due to animals being left behind when their humans are abducted. Oso, a pup available at the Golden Valley Humane Society, was recently featured in the Sahan Journal as one of those left behind pets. If you’ve been thinking about adding a new member to your family, consider heading to the Golden Valley Humane Society to meet Oso and the other great dogs looking for forever homes. If a new pet isn’t in the cards for you right now, there are other ways to help, such as donating dog food to a local shelter or becoming a foster parent. |
