Minnesota House Approves Clarification of Foreclosure Statute

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - Today, the Minnesota House passed HF3479 authored by Rep. Mike Freiberg (DFL – Golden Valley.) The bill clarifies existing statute on foreclosure proceedings, ensuring that homeowners can postpone a mortgage foreclosure sale and receive more time to come up with owed payments.

Rep. Mike Freiberg released the following statement on the bill’s passage:

“This bill builds on work from last year and makes sure Minnesotans get a bit more breathing room when faced with foreclosure — something that can leave Minnesota families without a place to live. Minnesotans are already facing a housing crisis. As lawmakers, it’s essential that we find ways to keep Minnesotans in their homes.”

The bill passed on a vote of 128-5. The bill awaits action in the Senate.
