House Approves Final Elections Committee Bills

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - Today, the Minnesota House gave final approval to two Elections Bills, HF4239 and HF4240. The House voted to concur with the bills as amended by the Senate, sending them on their way to Governor Walz for signature.

DFL Chair of the House Elections Committee, Rep. Mike Freiberg (DFL – Golden Valley) released the following statement:

“It's been a difficult couple of years in the divided House, but I’m proud to say that the Elections Committee worked very well together. These are good governance, common sense bills. I’m proud of the bipartisan work I did with my co-Chair and colleagues. As I wrap up my time in the House, these are a great note to end on.”

The bills help strengthen election integrity, provide greater flexibility for cities administering absentee voting, standardize the use of the statewide voter registration system across elections, and clarify early voting procedures and recordkeeping requirements.

Last week, House Republicans used HF4240 to try to push their voter suppression agenda, but were ultimately defeated by Democrats.
