Neighbors,

The 2026 legislative session is officially done.

The last two years in a tied House have been challenging. We began the biennium by stopping efforts to stage a coup and illegally take power away from Minnesotans, and we ended the biennium with Republicans standing in the way of any meaningful action on the things that are most important to Minnesotans, like preventing gun violence, helping average Minnesotans get ahead in the affordability crisis we’re in, and addressing ICE's occupation of our state.

Despite the gridlock on these major issues, we were able to pass some good bills in other areas. We rescued the Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC), which is the state’s top level one trauma center. We created the office of the Inspector General, which will be transformational in preventing and fighting fraud. We delivered $40 million in rental assistance for community members impacted by the federal occupation of ICE. We passed funding for food shelves and regional food banks and added capacity for SNAP. We passed an Infrastructure and Jobs bill that invests $1.2 billion dollars in vital local projects.

I’m proud to say that the Infrastructure and Jobs bill includes $2 million for the new Golden Valley fire station building, $3.325 million for a new Robbinsdale public works facility, and $1.75 million for the Douglas Drive water main in Crystal. With this being my last session as your State Representative, I wanted to deliver for our district – every corner of it. I’m proud that three cities in our district will receive vital investments in public works! And that’s not all I delivered for our community this session. You can find the list of nearly a dozen bills that I passed into law here.

Throughout session, I fought to make our economy fairer for everyday people. But too often, progress was blocked to boost large corporations. With one more vote, we could have made life better for Minnesotans.

Though we are heading into the legislative interim, I’m continuing working for you. Please, do not hesitate to reach out anytime with questions or concerns. I’m excited to be back in our district more this summer. If you see me out and about, please say hello!

Fighting for Action on Gun Violence Prevention

One of the biggest disappointments of the session was the House Republicans refusing to have a floor vote on a comprehensive gun violence prevention package that had already passed the Senate. If taken up on the House floor, this bill would need just one House Republican vote to head to the Governor’s desk and become law. Rather than risk that happening in a simple up or down vote, Republican leaders have gone from pretending the bill doesn’t even exist to outright refusing to do their job.

After hours of sharing tragic stories underlining the urgency of this legislation, Republicans continued to block a vote on this bill. When the Floor Session ended Thursday night, I joined my DFL colleagues for a sit-in on the House Floor, one that continued until the House gaveled in on Saturday to bring attention to this crucial issue and demand Speaker Demuth hold a vote on this bill. I took a moment to say hi to the advocates from Moms Demand Action, who were with us for much of the sit in, chanting outside the chamber and putting pressure on Republicans who refused to do what the vast majority of Minnesotans are demanding.

DFLers will never stop fighting to put an end to senseless, preventable gun violence.

Words cannot express how honored I am to have served our community for the past 14 years. Leaving the House is bittersweet – especially since the entire District 43 delegation is not seeking re-election to our current seats. Both Rep. Frazier and Sen. Rest have served our community well, and they will be missed.  Despite this chapter closing, I’m excited for the next adventure and to continue serving my community.
