Legislative Update

Dear Neighbors,

Session is going by fast and next week is already the first deadline which means all bills must be heard in committee by next Friday, if they have any hope of making it to the floor this session.

This week I introduced a couple different bills in committee.

First, I’m proud to be working alongside my colleague Rep. Terry Stier on the Safe at Home Act, a bill that is now very close to a vote on the House floor.

This legislation is about protecting victims and survivors of domestic abuse by ensuring their identities and locations remain secure once they’ve made the courageous decision to leave an unsafe situation. After hearing from a constituent in my district whose information was exposed to her abuser, it became clear we needed to strengthen this program and that’s exactly what this bill does.

With Representative Stier’s 23 years of law enforcement experience, his perspective has been invaluable in making sure this bill truly supports survivors every step of the way.

This is a commonsense, bipartisan effort that has received strong support, and it’s already moving forward in the Senate. I look forward to seeing it pass and continuing to stand up for those who need protection the most. Click here to watch the video below.

Meat Raffle

This week, I had the opportunity to present a bill to update the current limit on meat raffle prizes. Right now, the cap sits at $70 which, as we all know, doesn’t go nearly as far as it used to (especially if you’re hoping for a good cut like ribeyes or New York strips!).

This bill would raise the prize limit to $200 while keeping cash prizes at $70. It’s a simple, common-sense update that helps local charities, youth sports teams, and community organizations raise more funds while also making those Friday night raffles a little more exciting.

Meat raffles aren’t just about winning a great prize, they’re about supporting the organizations that make our communities strong. From Legion baseball to local hockey and basketball programs, these events play a big role in funding opportunities for kids and families across Minnesota.

Proud to support a fun, uniquely Minnesotan tradition that gives back to our communities. Click here to watch the video below.
