Legislative Update – February 12, 2026
Dear Neighbors,
We are less than one week from the start of the 2026 Legislative Session, and my colleagues and I have been busy preparing legislation to address the hardships that Minnesotans have faced this past year and build an economy that works for everyone.
I’ve been meeting with our partners in local government, schools, businesses, and more to hear about the impact this prolonged ICE surge has had on our neighbors, and how the legislature can take action to help.
Just last week, I met with Dan and Matt from ICA Food Shelf (learn more and support them here!) to learn about their important work supporting our neighbors at this time. They’re just one part of a network of Minnesotans who are taking care of our most vulnerable neighbors in this incredibly difficult time, and I’m proud of all the great organizations and everyday Minnesotans lending a hand day in and day out.
2026 Legislative Session
We have a lot of work to do this session: my DFL colleagues and I are focused on introducing legislation to rein in federal government overreach and protect Minnesotans’ rights, gun violence prevention proposals, healthcare reform, energy affordability measures, and a package of bills to strengthen oversight, prevention, detection, and enforcement to prevent fraud and protect our government services.
Many of these issues are things I hear about every day from constituents here in 45B and Minnesotans from across the state. We can make real progress this session, but only if we work together in a tied House. I’m hopeful that our colleagues across the aisle will recognize the important moment Minnesota is in, and together we can deliver for Minnesota families.
I’m also looking forward to hearing from you ahead of this session. If you missed my last newsletter, please share your thoughts using this pre-session survey.
Interstate 394 Construction Updates
The Minnesota Department of Transportation is resuming significant road work on Interstate 394 from late February through late fall 2026. Motorists who travel westbound on I-394 between downtown Minneapolis and Highway 100 in Golden Valley should expect delays and plan for reduced driving lanes and ramp closures beginning on Feb. 22.
You can stay informed on the I-394 project by visiting the project webpage, signing up for email updates, or visiting www.511mn.org or downloading the free 511MN app for real-time traffic and travel information.

Always remember, while in work zones, to obey posted speed limits (the fine for speeding in a work zone is $300), pay attention, avoid using cell phones, and give workers room to safely complete their work!
