Legislative Update – April 23, 2026

Dear Neighbors,

We’ve finally turned the corner into spring (and sometimes summer) weather, and I hope you’ve had time to get out and enjoy the beautiful parks and trails our district has to offer. This Saturday, April 25th, is Free Parks Day. It’s a great way to revisit our local gems or explore a new part of the state. You can use the parkfinder here to plan your next trip.

April 25 Free Parks Day

Yesterday was Earth Day, and I want to re-share a conversation between myself, Representatives Jamie Long and Frank Hornstein, and former Vice President Walter Mondale about the importance of protecting our Earth and climate. You can listen here

Legislative Session Update

We are less than one month away from the end of the 2026 Legislative Session, and negotiations are continuing as we work to pass our priorities and build an economy, health care system, education system, and state that works for everyone.

Unfortunately, it seems our Republican colleagues aren’t as interested in putting policy solutions above partisanship. I’ll give you a few examples:

  • They tried to make a motion to adjourn almost two months early, which DFLers opposed because we’re here to work for our districts.
  • On the Rules Committee, Republicans spent time appeasing the “freedom caucus,” which pushed a partisan resolution to impeach Gov. Walz and Attorney General Ellison.
  • In the Energy Committee, where I serve as co-chair, my Republican counterpart refused to negotiate a bipartisan policy bill, which included bills his members authored. He even cancelled our last hearing, blocking progress while energy costs continue to rise.

I’m still optimistic about our ability to get things done this year. But, I have to be honest with you that the actions of my colleagues across the aisle are making it more difficult to tackle the big issues our district cares about: gun violence prevention, economic relief to businesses harmed by the surge, protecting schools from ICE, protecting our climate and environment, and more.

I’m continuing to push for these priorities, as well as looking for places I can get my Republican colleagues’ support. I hope as we head into these last couple of weeks, we can get serious and make progress together. Our neighbors deserve nothing less.

Community at the Capitol

This week in the Taxes Committee, I presented two bills to help the cities of Wayzata and Minnetonka meet the needs of our residents and complete ongoing public projects. I’m pushing to have them included if we get a tax bill passed this session. Thank you to Mayors Andrew Mullin and Rebecca Schack and their city staff for advocating for the needs of our cities!

Acomb Constituent Meetings

It’s the season of student visits to the Capitol, and I was glad to meet with students from Wayzata High School who were here for the Annual Clean Energy Business Day. I also spent time with other constituents, school groups, and organizations coming out to make their voices heard.
