Legislative Update - Preventing Fraud and Town Hall Recap

Friday, March 13, 2026

Hello Friends,

Thank you to all those who joined us for our Virtual Town Hall on Tuesday evening. It was great to see familiar faces amidst all the activity here at the legislature.

We discussed broad topics like our ICE response and touched on specific bills such as feline declawing. We also had questions about how you can track what’s happening at the legislature, and there are a couple of good ways:

We discussed my bill providing some relief to property taxpayers, which you can watch me present here. I’m proud that while I was Mayor, most Shakopee residents’ city property taxes went down. But today, federal cuts and state disinvestment in schools are leaving property taxpayers to feel the pinch. My bill is just one of many we’re working on this year to help folks afford their lives and stay in their homes.

We also discussed our ongoing work to fight and prevent fraud. Minnesotans deserve a government they can trust. One that ensures public funds are actually going towards helping our neighbors, not lining the pockets of fraudsters.

This year, we’re building off the work of previous sessions and introducing a broad agenda to increase accountability, transparency, and program integrity.

We’ve started hearings on bills to hold fraudsters accountable, strengthen government oversight, modernize our outdated IT systems, and legislate these programs differently going forward.

Every dollar stolen by fraudsters is a dollar that doesn’t go to helping our neighbors with disabilities, supporting our seniors, or caring for our children, and that’s unacceptable. This session, I’m focused on passing these bills, preventing fraud, and protecting the programs that serve the most vulnerable Minnesotans.

Reply to this email or call me at 651-297-5003 with any questions, comments, or ideas you have for Shakopee and Minnesota.

I look forward to hearing from you.
