Legislative Update – Funding the Shakopee Innovation Center!

Hello Friends,

The 2026 Legislative Session came to an end this week, and I'm proud of the work we accomplished in a tied House to help our hospitals, deliver property tax cuts and tab fee relief, protect taxpayer dollars, and invest in local jobs and infrastructure projects.

In a tied House, with 67 DFLers and 67 Republicans, there was always bound to be some compromise and some disappointment. As your legislator, I worked to find compromise wherever possible while always putting Shakopee first.

We successfully passed solutions to combat and prevent fraud, protecting Minnesotans' state dollars and keeping them out of criminals' hands. We passed an independent Office of the Inspector General, more Medicaid fraud investigators, IT upgrades, and my bill to crack down on gift card fraud, which passed unanimously earlier this session.

We also provided funding to stabilize Hennepin County Medical Center, the state’s largest safety net hospital, which serves patients from across the state, including 2,500 from Scott County last year alone.

I’m glad to report that we passed a significant Local Jobs and Infrastructure package late last Sunday night, which includes $4 million in funding I authored for the Shakopee Innovation Center! Watch my announcement video here

Shakopee Innovation Center

We first purchased the land for this project when I was mayor, and I’m so proud that we secured this final phase of funding to complete the project this year. You can read more about the project here.

This will be the first higher education center south of the river in Scott County, and it will support small businesses, entrepreneurs, and economic vitality in Shakopee. Congratulations to all our partners at the local level who helped get this done, I couldn’t have done it without all your hard work and support.

Reply to this email or call me at 651-297-5003 with any questions, comments, or ideas you have for Shakopee and Minnesota.

I look forward to hearing from you.
