Dear Neighbors,
Since we gaveled into the 2026 legislative session on February 17th, my DFL colleagues and I have been hitting the ground running introducing bills addressing fraud, gun violence prevention, and holding ICE and federal entities accountable.

Please click on the links below to view handouts highlighting the work DFLers have passed over the last couple of years to address fraud, improve systems, and increase transparency.
While there is more work to be done, please know I am taking this issue very seriously. I’ll continue advocating for our vulnerable communities and everyone impacted by cuts to life-saving programs and services.
Under DFL leadership and our fiscally responsible policies, February’s projected balance is now $3.7 billion for the 2026-27 fiscal year. While this is an optimistic report, we know that continued federal disruptions and the recent cut to Medicaid payments will have a dire impact on our elders and vulnerable communities. As the Ways and Means Committee Co-chair, I will do everything I can to ensure our work is centered on addressing the urgent needs of our neighbors across our state.

Divine 9 Legislation
I'm proud to announce I'll be introducing legislation to establish panhellenic special plates in recognition of the nine historically Black Greek organizations, known as the Divine 9 or D9.
The Minneapolis-St. Paul Chapter of the National Pan-Hellenic Council joined me in the following statement:
“We are proud to recognize the Divine Nine organizations and their members. Their framework for mentorship, service, advocacy, and education has directly contributed to the social and economic mobility of Black Minnesotans for generations.
“We are honored to introduce this legislation during Black History Month as we celebrate the legacies of our ancestors and the Black excellence that has contributed so greatly to our state and nation. Black fraternities and sororities embody this history in motion—driving Minnesota’s progress through a century of leadership, service, education and systemic impact. It is a privilege to honor their powerful legacy and the generational influence that continues to transform our communities today.”
I am a proud member of the internationally renowned Phi Beta Sigma Inc. and the local state Chapter of Zeta Nu Sigma. I live by our fraternity motto: “Culture for Service and Service for Humanity."

Gun Violence Prevention
During the interim, I had the privilege of hosting a community town hall addressing gun violence prevention. The recurring message from residents was clear: they want to see meaningful action taken to address the violence threatening our community and our children. Last week, for the first time since the mass shooting in August, the House welcomed students, their families, and survivors from Annunciation Catholic School for a sing-in and to testify on two bill proposals to ban high-capacity magazines and assault weapons. Jackie Flavin shared gut-wrenching testimony about losing her 10-year child, Harper Moyski, in the Annunciation School shooting. She recounted the horrifying experience of having to cremate her child’s body twice due to the trauma the assault weapon did to her body.
While it was not unexpected, every Republican voted against the proposals and offered no commonsense pathway forward that honors the children who lost their lives and the many who will forever be changed by the unimaginable trauma they endured. Inaction can no longer be an option. We know we are on the right side of history along with 79% of Minnesotans who are demanding change. We’ll continue to work with families, survivors, and advocates to pass meaningful legislation to mitigate the gun violence epidemic affecting our communities.
Keeping our children safe should not be a partisan issue. Working toward measures to uphold responsible gun ownership is not anti-gun policy. Seeing grieving families plead with lawmakers and not taking meaningful action is an abdication of our oath of office. It is a shame Republicans choose time and time again to stand with the gun lobby instead of Minnesotans.

Three Rivers Parks - Pathways Internship
Applications are now open for Three Rivers Park District’s Pathways Internship Program. Pathways offer paid internship opportunities that provide real-world experiences for young people, particularly those facing barriers to employment, to explore careers in parks and recreation.
The program provides an opportunity to explore a specific career area within Three Rivers Park District and build career readiness skills at development days throughout the summer. They offer internships throughout Three Rivers, including opportunities in education and recreation; park maintenance and natural resources; park operations; and community events, outreach and technology.
Internships run June through August and generally are 20 hours per week. The Three Rivers Park District Foundation provides transportation scholarships to Pathways interns when the ability to find reliable transportation impacts their participation in a Pathways internship or activities associated with it. Applications will remain open until the positions are filled.
