Inclusive Democracy Caucus Statement on Trump’s Texas Power Grab

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Today, the Co-Chairs of the Minnesota Legislature’s Inclusive Democracy Caucus - Senator Liz Boldon (DFL-Rochester), Representative Cedrick Frazier (DFL-New Hope), and Representative Emma Greenman (DFL-Minneapolis) – released the following statement on President Trump and Texas Republicans’ attempt to steal congressional districts through gerrymandering:

“What we’re witnessing in Texas is an active threat to our representative democracy, and an erosion of the values this country was based on—that voters chose politicians, not politicians choosing their voters. We stand with Texas Democrats who will not provide consent for the President to dictate our representation and silence voters.

“This is another step in Donald Trump’s pursuit of authoritarian power. In 2020, Donald Trump lost an election and asked Georgia officials to find him 11,780 votes. Now he is asking Texas Republicans to find him five congressional seats, and they are bending the knee.

“Donald Trump is an unpopular president who just signed one of the most unpopular bills ever. He’s gutting Medicaid and food programs, starting wars, and tanking our economy, all while pushing corrupt tax breaks for his billionaire buddies. Trump knows he will lose Congress unless he rigs the system, and Americans can see right through it. This is a call to action to all of us who believe in our democracy to raise our voices and get in the fight to preserve free and fair elections.”
