Rep. Bakeberg Statement on Walz Decision to Forgo Reelection

St. Paul – Representative Ben Bakeberg (R-Jordan) released the following statement today in response to Governor Tim Walz announcing he will not seek reelection:

“Governor Tim Walz’s statements today were the same typical deflection and blame shifting we’ve seen out of him for years, and Minnesotans can surely expect the same approach from any DFL candidate who runs in his place.

Republicans have been the only ones offering real, proven solutions to Minnesota’s historic fraud crisis, including the proposal to establish an independent Office of the Inspector General. Those reforms have been repeatedly ignored by the governor and the House DFL.

Minnesota needs to get serious about fraud. Simply replacing one Democrat with another will not produce different results. In the months ahead, Minnesotans will hear plenty of reassurances, but words do not erase a long record of fraud, financial mismanagement, and complacency. Real reform requires real accountability.”
