Dear Neighbors,

As we quickly approach the halfway point of the legislative session, my colleagues and I want to check in with you!

On Monday, March 30, I’ll be joining Reps. Pérez-Vega and Xiong to hold a Town Hall to provide an update on our work in the Minnesota House, and discuss with our community the ways in which we can work together to revitalize St. Paul.

The event will begin at 6:00pm and go until 8:00pm. We ask that our neighbors please RSVP to receive the location information, which can be done here.

Town Hall

This event will be a great opportunity for our communities to touch base on ways we can revitalize our city, whether that’s vitality and transportation infrastructure projects, support for our small businesses, and ways in which we can lift up the arts and community initiatives.

I’m looking forward to connecting with our neighbors, and I hope to see you there!

Fighting for Affordable Housing

Not much can go right unless you have a safe and secure place to call home - that’s true in our community, and in every corner of Minnesota.

Minnesota is in a housing crisis, one that’s been made even worse by Operation Metro Surge. When thousands of our neighbors, regardless of their immigration status, feared to leave their homes due to the threat of being abducted by federal agents, the result is an ongoing crisis with many of these neighbors now struggling to pay rent.

This week, House Republicans voted against emergency rental assistance that would help Minnesotans facing eviction. The Senate already passed the bill with bipartisan support.

Rental Assistance

Families deserve stability and a place to call home. I will continue fighting to keep Minnesotans housed - which is exactly what I did in our Housing Committee yesterday.

As a member of the Housing Committee, I work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to ensure we’re making impactful investments and passing sound policy to make housing accessible to our neighbors.

This week, I presented three of my housing-related bills:

  • HF 3639 would prohibit landlords from listing a minor on a lease. There’s no reason the younger generation should face additional challenges finding a home just because their family faced housing insecurity.
  • HF 3064 would invest $20 million to rehabilitate, preserve, equip and repair deeply affordable single-family homes and duplexes throughout our city.
  • HF 2123 would require landlords with more than ten units to offer tenants the option of having their on-time rental payments reported using a rent payment reporting service. Renters should be able to build good credit by paying rent on time.
Committee Work

I will continue to fight for these bills to make our community, and the entire state, a better place to rent or buy an affordable home.
