Legislative Update

Friends and Neighbors,

Last week, I had the privilege of meeting with US Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent to discuss his ongoing fraud investigations in the state of Minnesota.

I am pleased to inform you that Secretary Bessent and his financial crimes task force are surging resources into our state to combat and prosecute fraud.

Secretary of Treasury Scott Bessent

Feds Move In on Minnesota Fraud:

Secretary Bessent addressed a panel of Republican legislators, journalists, law enforcement officers, and affected constituents, with a rundown of what is to come:

  1. The Treasury Department will be using the full power of the federal government's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) to target fraudsters, as well as the firms who facilitated fraudulent overseas wire transfers of stolen Minnesota and US taxpayer dollars.
  2. A strict digital financial perimeter will be put in place around Hennepin and Ramsey Counties. It will require individuals and businesses to go through a stringent process if they wish to send wire transfers outside of the United States.
  3. The Treasury Department is setting up a whistleblower network to provide monetary rewards to those who bring fraud to their attention.
  4. Investigations are underway into whether or not Governor Walz and Attorney General Ellison are criminally complicit in facilitating the staggering fraud that has occurred.

My Remarks:

"The citizens in this state can't even stand to pay their taxes, when they see it going to these fraudsters."

The focus of my testimony (which starts at 48:33 in the attached video) was accountability and the need to prioritize American citizens over foreign fraudsters. I highlighted how the fraud that has been allowed to fester under the Walz Administration has broken the social contract between citizens and government in Minnesota, and I thanked the Secretary for his time and resources in addressing this critical issue.

Rep Hudson and I met with Chris Rufo, who was one of the first to bring Minnesota's fraud epidemic to the national spotlight.

David Hoch and Rep Schultz

I met with David Hoch, whose independent investigative journalism was featured in Nick Shirley's viral video on daycare fraud in the Twin Cities.

I look forward to providing you with future updates as these federal investigations unfold, and I will be fighting on your behalf at the State Capitol to ensure all involved are held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.
