Local Pride on the National Stage: Glencoe-Silver Lake FFA Chapter Brings Home Top Honors

ST. PAUL — State Representative Dawn Gillman (R–Dassel) announced today that she will join students, educators, and community members at Glencoe-Silver Lake School to celebrate the district’s FFA Chapter winning the National FFA Chapter Title, one of the most prestigious honors awarded in agricultural education.

The celebration will take place on Tuesday, November 25, in the Purple Gym at Glencoe-Silver Lake School. Guests may enter through Door #1 (Commons) and are encouraged to arrive by 9:45 AM, as the program kicks off at 9:50 AM. The program will last about an hour, followed by refreshments and opportunities to talk with FFA members.

Rep. Gillman says she is honored to join in celebrating what she calls “one of the most impressive examples of student-driven excellence in Minnesota.”

“This isn’t just an award—it’s a story about culture, values, and leadership,” Gillman said. “The Glencoe-Silver Lake FFA chapter has truly created an environment where every student feels they belong, where hard work is celebrated, and where service to the community is woven into everything they do. That’s what makes them national champions.”

The chapter’s impact on the community has not gone unnoticed. Over the past year, members contributed more than $158,000 worth of service hours and donations—an astonishing testament to their commitment. This year’s officer team also put in the miles, visiting community stakeholders door-to-door to build stronger, more personal relationships.

At the National FFA Convention, Glencoe-Silver Lake was represented by three standout leaders—Anna Sievert, Grady Schuft, and Samantha Mattson—each a former chapter president whose leadership helped shape the chapter’s rise to national success.

"Our goal was never to win an award. Our goal was to build leaders, informed consumers, and better people," said chapter advisor, Rebekka Paskewitz. "Our members know they belong to an organization that challenges them to grow and change. Our success can also be addictive, when members see other members win, they are driven to do the same. And when members buy in to that 'push,' we become great."

Rep. Gillman encourages families, alumni, and the broader community to attend Tuesday’s celebration to recognize this outstanding group of young leaders.
