WHAT'S NEW?

Capitol

We have entered the home stretch of the 2026 legislative session! We are constitutionally mandated to adjourn by 11:59 Sunday night. The good news is that all sides have come together on an end-of-session deal that will provide $400 million in tax relief for Minnesotans. As the bills are still being processed, I will provide more in-depth details on the proposal after it has been approved.

LEGISLATION HIGHLIGHTS

DEMOCRATS ALLOWED FRAUD TO FESTER

On Wednesday, the Minnesota House Fraud Prevention and State Oversight Committee adopted its Majority Report, concluding a sweeping two-year investigation into fraud across Minnesota state government programs. The report details the Committee’s findings after dozens of hearings and lays out recommendations aimed at restoring accountability and preventing future abuse of taxpayer dollars.

The report serves as a comprehensive roadmap documenting how massive fraud schemes were allowed to take root and expand within Minnesota government programs. It sharply criticizes the Walz Administration for repeated failures to detect, stop, and address widespread abuse.

According to the report, the Dayton and Walz Administrations created an environment where fraud flourished through weak oversight, bureaucratic inaction, and a pattern of dismissing or suppressing warnings from investigators, auditors, and whistleblowers. The report further alleges that state officials too often ignored red flags, failed to act on credible evidence, and attempted to minimize public scrutiny as the scale of fraud continued to grow. By December 2025, former U.S. Attorney Joe Thompson estimated fraud across 14 high-risk Medicaid programs could total as much as $9 billion.

After conducting more than two dozen hearings, the fraud committee concluded that:

  • Democrats in the Dayton and Walz Administrations, as well as in the Minnesota House of Representatives, took steps to suppress findings of fraud
  • The Walz Administration enabled fraud by poor program design and weak controls
  • The Walz Administration’s failure to hold anyone accountable for fraud, especially after having had the benefit of the OLA reports in March and April of 2019, is what enabled fraud to grow from an estimated $5 million - $100 million in the childcare program to billions across multiple Medicaid services
  • Attorney General Ellison has failed to protect taxpayers and vulnerable Minnesotans
  • Representative Ilhan Omar created the conditions for Feeding our Future

The findings and recommendations in this report must be taken seriously if Minnesota is going to reverse the culture of incompetence and failed oversight that made these scandals possible. Significant progress has been made in exposing fraud, tightening internal controls, and demanding accountability from state government, but the work is far from finished. Minnesota must continue aggressively rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse, holding public officials accountable for failures in oversight, protecting vulnerable citizens from exploitation, and restoring public trust in government programs that too many Minnesotans now view with deep skepticism.

HONORING AMERICA’S 250TH BIRTHDAY

With session coming to a close, lawmakers recognized the upcoming United States Semiquincentennial on Thursday. I was pleased to speak as part of the Minnesota House contingent that wanted to honor America’s 250th birthday.

DEMOCRATS WANT TO BAN YOUR GUNS

Yesterday, House Republicans stood tall against the most radical gun legislation our state has ever debated, where common handguns and hunting rifles would have been outlawed. All because House Democrats wanted to score political points. It was a joke.

Make no mistake, if the Democrats control the House, Senate, and Governor’s Office again after this November’s election, prepare for your 2nd Amendment rights to be destroyed. That’s not a scare tactic; it’s just a fact. They are showing you how they will act in real time, and it is disgusting.
