Hortmans Lying in State and a Community Town Hall Tonight

Wednesday, June 25, 2025
Kraft Banner 2023

Dear neighbors,

For those interested, there are a couple of opportunities in the next few days to honor Melissa and Mark Hortman. This Friday, the Hortmans will lie in state at the Minnesota Capitol along with their beloved dog, Gilbert. The Capitol Rotunda will be open to the public to pay their respects from noon to 5 p.m. The Hortmans will be among the fewer than 20 Minnesotans to have received this honor.

On Saturday, the Hortman family will hold a private family funeral starting at 10:30 a.m. The family has chosen to make a live video feed available, which you can watch here.

My sincere thanks for all the calls, texts, and emails I’ve received, and for the people that have seen me in the community and asked about me and my family. We are okay - and I’m starting to figure out how to move forward. It has reminded me what an honor it is to represent our caring, tight-knit community.

Community Town Hall in St. Louis Park Tonight

In times like these, community is more important than ever. My Senate District colleagues, Sen. Ron Latz and Rep. Cheryl Youakim, and I are having a Town Hall tonight, Wednesday, June 25th, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. It’s at St. Louis Park City Hall, 5005 Minnetonka Blvd. Due to construction, you can access City Hall from Raleigh Ave via the Highway 7 frontage road.

All constituents are invited. We can have some space to talk and remember Melissa and Mark Hortman. And we'll also discuss and answer questions about the recently completed session, which seems like years ago, though the special session was just over two weeks ago.
