Legislative Update: March 13, 2026
Dear Neighbors,
First off, I want to invite you to our upcoming District 62 Town Hall on Tuesday, March 24, from 6:00 – 7:30 pm. We’ll provide an update on state policy issues for this legislative session and take questions from neighbors, which you can submit here.
Please RSVP using this link. Everyone is welcome, and light refreshments will be provided. If you have any additional questions, please reach out to my legislative assistant, Saynab, at Saynab.Jama@house.mn.gov.
Committee Updates
Yesterday, the Minnesota House passed our first bills off the Floor, including unanimously voting to rename the Community Solar Garden Program for Speaker Emerita, and former Energy Committee Chair, Melissa Hortman. I was proud to vote “Green” on this bill to celebrate Melissa’s legacy as a green energy leader.
This week, I presented three bills in committees. First up in the Health Committee, we heard my bill giving more flexibility to Minnesota’s Medication Repository Program. The program helps provide continuity of care, reduces waste by redistributing unused medication, and offers safe options to Minnesotans in need. I’m happy to report my bill passed out of committee with bipartisan support!
Then, in the Energy Committee, we heard two of my bills focused on promoting energy affordability at a time when many Minnesotans are struggling to keep up with their bills.
The first bill adds language into statute to ensure that the Public Utilities Commission actively promotes affordable services and takes into consideration customers’ ability to pay rates. The second bill directs public utilities and co-ops to report their total revenue, providing the public with more transparency when rates increase or become unaffordable. Both bills were laid over for future consideration.
Community at the Capitol
Finally, I want to highlight some recent constituent visits to the Capitol! I met with Anna from Moms Demand Action to talk about the importance of taking action on gun violence prevention legislation and with members of the Minnesota School Psychologists Association to discuss how we can better support student’s mental health.
