Legislative Update: March 30, 2026
Dear Neighbors,
First off, I want to thank everyone who came out to our recent District 62 Town Hall! We are blessed to have such an engaged community, and I appreciated the opportunity to give updates on legislation we’re working on to strengthen our district and our state.
Voting to Protect Minnesotans
Last Thursday, DFLers forced votes on legislation to keep ICE out of schools, ban assault weapons, and ban high-capacity magazines on the House Floor. These measures are about protecting our children, and are supported by the vast majority of Minnesotans, but they’ve been voted down in committee by House Republicans.

The motions we put forward would have only needed one Republican vote to succeed. It was an opportunity to put the entire House on the record and show we could put humanity over politics. Unfortunately, but not unsurprisingly, Republicans continued to vote lockstep against the bills.
We’re at the halfway point of session, and we’ll continue to use every tool we have to protect Minnesotans. Our kids deserve to go to school without the fear of federal agents terrorizing their classmates, and without the fear of yet another deadly school shooting.
I’ll continue advocating for these bills for as long as it takes for them to become law.
Community at the Capitol
Last week was deadline week at the Capitol, but I’m always glad to take time to meet with constituents who come to make their voices heard, like Blair from the Minnesota Social Service Association. I also met with students from TeenPact to answer their questions about our state government and spoke at Muslim Women’s Day at the Capitol about my bill to keep ICE out of our hospitals.
