Rep. Cal Warwas' Statement on the Tragic Events of June 14th, 2025
Saint Paul, MN – Representative Cal Warwas (R – Clinton Township) released the following statement:
"I am horrified by the evil attack that took place this weekend, and heartbroken beyond words at the loss of Minnesota House of Representative's former Speaker Melissa Hortman, and her husband Mark.
Melissa was a mother, daughter, wife, friend, and public servant. As a legislator, she served with grace, class, and a deep commitment to working for the people of this state.
My prayers are also with Senator John Hoffman, and his wife Yvette, hoping they make a full recovery from this attack.
I condemn in the strongest possible terms the violence that took Melissa and Mark from us. Political violence is abhorrent and unacceptable and I urge every Minnesotan to reject it unequivocally.
While the suspected killer has now been apprehended, this ordeal is not yet over. I want to thank the hundreds of law enforcement professionals across the state that worked in careful coordination to bring us the results we now have, which have protected others from further danger.
In our corner of the state, I commend the great work of the St. Louis County Sheriff’s department, and the Minnesota State Patrol. These agencies took every precaution, working to make sure me and my family were safe. Their dedication, concern and professionalism cannot be overstated."
