MINNESOTA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES RECONVENES FOR 2016 SESSION

Wednesday, March 9, 2016

ST. PAUL - The 2016 Legislative Session is underway at the State Capitol, and State Representative Greg Davids (R-Preston) expects some heated debates as lawmakers try to solve Minnesota's most pressing needs.

"There's no doubt we are going to be finding ways to allocate our $900 million surplus by mid-May," Davids said. "Plus, with a tax relief proposal and a transportation plan that would dedicate $7 billion to roads and bridges without raising taxes still awaiting legislative compromise, lawmakers will be kept busy during this ten-week session."

Davids said lawmakers are also likely to debate a capital investment bill before session ends. This proposal borrows money at low interest rates to fund construction projects across Minnesota.

"Considering we had a small bonding bill last session, there will be strong debate over how much lawmakers should borrow again this session," Davids said. "There are a number of needy projects in Fillmore and Houston counties that I will be fighting for, and it will be interesting to review our capital investment bill as it moves forward."

As always, Rep. Davids would like to know your thoughts on the budget, capital investment bill, and other issues. He asks you to contact him any time by phone at 1-800-551-9145, or by email at rep.greg.davids@house.mn.
