LEGISLATIVE AUDITOR: MNSURE’S FAILURES OUTWEIGHED ITS ACHIEVEMENTS

Tuesday, February 17, 2015
ST. PAUL, MN—Rep. Greg Davids (R-Preston) issued the following statement after the release of the report from the non-partisan Legislative Auditor on MNsure. The report concluded that "MNsure's failures outweighed its achievements" and detailed the numerous failings by Governor Dayton and his hand-picked MNsure board and director during its first year of operations. Furthermore, the report stated: "Among people we surveyed who enrolled through MNsure in a qualified health plan, 75 percent reported having 'significant' technical problems with the website."

"The Legislative Auditor's report confirms what we have known to be true; MNsure is still failing to meet the promises of its Democrat architects. While Minnesotans struggled with a broken website and MNsure managers received lavish bonuses, Governor Dayton did little while his hand-picked director and board wasted over $200 million in taxpayer funds.

"The Auditor's report put it best: 'MNsure's failures outweighed its achievements.' We are past the point of partisan cheerleading, and the time has come for Democrats to but real solutions on the table. The new House Republican majority is committed to improving access to affordable coverage for consumers and protecting Minnesota taxpayers."

Rep. Davids is Chair of the House Taxes Committee and also serves on the MNsure Legislative Oversight Committee.
