ST. PAUL, MN – Today, the House Republicans passed their supplemental transportation budget as a part of a larger, mega bill tied with Health and Human Services funding. Similar to last year, the legislation once again delivers zero new funding for Metro or Greater Minnesota transit, and still contains no dedicated, sustainable road and bridge funding for the future.
A constitutional amendment shifting money from the general fund to pay for roads and bridges is a separate transportation proposal House Republicans are seeking to pass.
Representative Frank Hornstein (DFL-Minneapolis), DFL-Lead on the House Transportation Finance Committee, released the following statement:
“Republicans have consistently failed to deliver a long-term, sustainable transportation solution to benefit the whole state. We need transportation solutions that include all modes of transportation for communities across the entire state.
“Forcing our transportation needs to compete with care and resources for our cherished elders, students, most vulnerable people, and our public safety is irresponsible and it’s unfair to those who need it the most. Minnesotans deserve a strong and dependable transportation system, which includes transit to get to school, work, medical appointments and other important places. If Republicans can’t find a realistic, inclusive solution, they will harm not only Minnesota’s future infrastructure, but the people living here. Minnesotans deserve better.”
