Legislative Update - February 15, 2019

Friday, February 15, 2019

Dear neighbors,

Inflow and Infiltration Grants

My proposal to provide support for inflow and infiltration wastewater collection systems received its first public hearing on Tuesday. HF 582 would provide grants to metropolitan cities to reduce the amount of inflow and infiltration to the sewer system. You can watch the entire hearing here.

Testifiers include West St. Paul Mayor Dave Napier, City Manager Ryan Schroeder, and Newport Mayor Dan Lund. Thank you for your support! There will be three separate hearings on Inflow and Infiltration this week.

Economic Development and Housing Challenge Audit

Last Friday, the Legislative Audit Commission received a report on Economic Development and Housing Challenge, a program run by the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency that addresses the need for affordable housing. The commission concluded that MHFA has generally done a good job with this program, but made some recommendations for improving their application process. You can read a summary of our findings or view the full report here.

MNLARS Audit

Yesterday the Legislative Audit Commission received a report on the Minnesota Licensing and Registration System (MNLARS). The audit shows what happened in detail, and it's clear that mistakes were made in many places during the rollout. Now we have to find a way of getting this completed. Check out these articles for more information:

Allianz Stadium Tour

On Wednesday, I was able to take an early morning tour of the new Allianz Stadium. The almost completed stadium is as impressive on the inside as it appears from the street. The House Capital Investment Committee was the first committee taking the tour that had the ability to take photos. I look forward to seeing a game there soon. Go Loons!

Our beautiful Capitol looks great at dawn with light snow coming down. I took this photo as the other members of the Capital Investment Committee and I loaded the bus.

The view from inside Allianz Stadium. The stadium was glowing as light snow settled into the field. It was like being in a giant snow globe.
