Legislative Update - February 25, 2019

Monday, February 25, 2019

Dear neighbors,

West St. Paul Local Option Sales Tax

In November, West St. Paul voters approved a local sales tax to help fund road improvements. The legislature and the governor need to adopt legislation to authorize the tax before the ordinance can be approved by the City Council, so I’ve introduced HF 651. That proposal will be heard tonight at 6pm during a public hearing held by the Property and Local Tax Committee. Learn more about the proposed sales tax here.

Appraiser’s Day at the Capitol

Today was Appraiser’s Day at the Capitol. Christine Mackaman, a Mendota Heights resident, stopped by to advocate for updating a statute.

Meet Max Poplin

I want to introduce you to Max, one of the students who will be interning in my office this session. Max is a sophomore at Macalester College. As a political science major, he studies public policy and law. In his spare time, he participates in Mock Trial and enjoys cooking and reading.
