Legislative Update - March 8, 2019

Friday, March 8, 2019

Dear neighbors,

*CANCELLED* Town Hall

This weekend’s town hall meeting in West St. Paul has been cancelled due to weather and safety concerns. We’re working on finding another time, and I will let you know as soon as we’ve set a date.

Equal Rights Amendment

All Minnesotans deserve full equality under the law. As we recognize International Women’s Day, we are also celebrating a historic accomplishment. Last night the House passed legislation to add the Equal Rights Amendment to Minnesota’s constitution (HF 13). This would extend equal rights to all Minnesotans, regardless of gender.

Almanac at the Capitol

I was a guest on Almanac at the Capitol on Wednesday. You can watch our discussion about improving MNLARS here.

Dodge Nature Center Pancake Breakfast

Dodge Nature Center is hosting a pancake breakfast this Saturday. Stop by for some great pancakes and an educational hike about the process of maple syrup collection and production. Donations will be accepted, but the event is free. Learn more and pre-register here.

When: Saturday, March 9 from 8-10:30am

Where: Garlough Environmental Magnet School, 1740 Charlton Street, West St. Paul, MN 55118

Coming Up

Public hearings for several of my bills will occur next week. Several of these would directly impact our community. Residents are welcome to come to the hearings or follow along online. You can watch committee hearings live here or visit committee webpages to view them later.

On Tuesday, two of my proposals will be heard in the Property and Local Tax Division. One (HF 461) would increase local government aid for the city of West St. Paul, and the other (HF 949) would do the same for Lilydale.

On Wednesday, my plan to invest in improvements for West St. Paul’s lift stations (HF 1598) will be heard in Capital Investment and Environment and Natural Resources Finance. Lift stations are a crucial piece of wastewater management as they move waste or sewage from one elevation to another. This legislation would upgrade several stations and replace others.

My bill to design, construct, and improve bicycle and pedestrian trails in Dakota County (HF 1854) will also be heard in the Environment and Natural Resources Finance.

More bills may be added later in the week, so stay tuned for updates.

Sincerely,

Rick Hansen
State Representative
