Minnesota House Members Celebrate Arbor Day by Distributing Trees

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – In honor of Arbor Day, which is celebrated the last Friday of April, Representative Rick Hansen (DFL - South St. Paul) distributed Red Oak and Red Pine saplings from Schumacher’s Nursery in Heron Lake, Minnesota to members of the Minnesota House of Representatives. Red Pine, also known as Norway Pine, is the state tree of Minnesota. Red Pine can grow to heights of 60 to 150 feet and live for about 400 years.

“Arbor Day is a day where we come together as Minnesotans to celebrate nature and to help our outdoors by planting a tree,” said Rep. Hansen, chair of the Minnesota House Environment and Natural Resources Committee. “In a year when we are making historic investments in tree replanting to address devastation from emerald ash borer, I am glad to continue bipartisan tradition honoring the importance of trees to our state and our ecosystem.”

This yearly bipartisan House tradition has been celebrated around Arbor Day for over 30 years. Tree saplings were handed out at the end of today’s floor session.
